DOES SEX
BELONG WITHIN
THE CIRCLE?

there are a few individuals that derive sexual gratification from feeling pain or
inflicting pain on others, regardless it still works). Unless a Blood Magick
operation involves a sacrificial victim (usually a chicken) as in some Voudon,
and Santeria ceremonies, or some sort of "Dark" operation in which a live
animal, usually a bird or fowl, is ripped apart at the height of the ceremony,
the blood spilled in the operation comes from the practitioner(s) conducting
the experiment. This is usually done at the height of the working, and instead
of killing an animal (or other victim), the practitioner becomes the victim,
spilling his/her own blood/life-force generally by slashing the forearm to bring
forth the power or energies necessary to effect a successful operation.
forth the power or energies necessary to effect a successful operation.

With the notable exception of some who call themselves Witches and are into
bloodletting and ritual scarring, very few true Witches would do this sort of
thing. Most are extremely horrified at the idea of ritually killing an animal for
any reason, and are for the most part completely put off by bloodletting in
magickal operations. So what's left? SEX MAGICK!

In most magickal workings involving the sexual energies, the sex act is not
engaged in. It is the sexual energy itself that is desired and used. The sexual
energy is raised by causing sexual excitement, (getting turned on) between
the group members. This is done by dancing, touching, feeling, chanting, and
innuendo. Sex Magick is nearly always, and is ALWAYS RECOMMENDED to be
engaged in by ESTABLISHED PARTNERS. There are some groups who are very
comfortable in engaging in the sex act in a group setting, but these (if they
are truly sincere about practicing magick, rather then just having an excuse
to have sex) are in the minority. In most Wiccan groups, the sex organs are
not stimulated in any fashion, and certainly not to orgasm within a group, or
coven working. But many Wiccan couples (and some Ceremonial Magicians)
perform Sex Magick in a private setting. This can be a very powerful
experience, and orgasm is never the intent, but rather the result of the
operation.

One other ceremony in which the sex act may be engaged in within the circle
is "The Great Rite". This is usually done symbolically as the Wine Ceremony,
but is sometimes done in actuality with the High Priestess representing and
embodying the essence of the Goddess, and the High Priest as the
representation and embodiment of the God. When the Great Rite is
preformed, the coven members in most cases exit the circle and go to
another room or area where they remain until they are called to return by the
High Priest. In a few covens, the coveners remain within the circle but turn
their backs to the High Priestess and High Priest while the Great
Rite is enacted. In both cases, the coveners, as mere mortals, are forbidden
to witness the coming together of the God and Goddess, as represented by
the High Priest and High Priestess.

In summation, if you are a serious student of the Craft, sex Magick can be a
very powerful tool. However, you should never be forced or coerced into
doing something that you feel uncomfortable with, or your "gut feeling" is that
"this is wrong". Should the attempt be made, we would suggest that this
group is not for you. You always have the choices or either leaving, staying,
practicing as a solitary and/or forming your own group. Chances are that if you
are uncomfortable with the way things are being done within a group, and if it
is not a serious mystical group, chances are that there will be other group
members that will agree with you. Having sex should ALWAYS BE YOUR
CHOICE, YOUR DECISION. Never should it be the will of the group or the will of
the leaders, or anyone else for that matter, after all, it IS YOUR BODY!
